Charpentier studied under Cavelier at the Ecole des Beaux Arts andmade his debut at the Salon in 1884. He was regarded as one of themost outstanding sculptors of his day and won many medals for hisworks. Known for his monument celebrating the centenary of the theFrench annexation of Venaissin, he also executed many smallerallegorical and genre groups, both in bronze and plaster.
