(EV214) Provenance: Heritage, May 3-4, 2006, $1434., Marbella Gallery, New York, New York Note: Note: Mildred Thaler Cohen (1921 - 2012) Ms. Cohen, an alumna of New York's Hunter College, and her first husband began the collection in the late '50s, at a time when American paintings were not recognized as important works of art. The paintings were collected with passion and hung in the family's home. After her first husband's death, Ms. Cohen opened the Marbella Gallery on 72nd Street in Manhattan, specializing in 19th century American painting, but the collection remained a connoisseur’’s collection. Hung in her gallery and adjoining apartment, it was a personal reflection of a dedicated collector. Cohen was also a respected writer and acknowledged expert in traditional American fine art. Selections from her collection were donated to the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury Connecticut. {TEC} (MARB1031) Marbella Gallery, New York New York 17 1/2 x 23, framed 24 x 29 Board is bowed, chip and surface loss upper right

Love Galleries, Inc., American Winter Scenes of Yesteryear , Dec. 14, 1996-Feb. 8, 1987 Among Chadwick's favorite subjects was that of farm buildings glimpsed through artful arrangements of foreground foliage and bordered by placid waterways. In this image, rendered in Old Lyme, Connecticut, our gaze is drawn along the gentle diagonal of the brook to the saltbox dwelling in the distance. At the same time, the various angles of the farmhouse are echoed in the outbuilding on the right, the snow on its sloping roof creating a thin white wedge against the sky.
