Add. Notes: signed and dated 'Samuel J Carter/89' (lower left) oil on canvas 15½ x 11 in. (39.4 x 28 cm.)Notes: La Danseuse au Soleil noir is related to the later print Le Cracheur de Flammes (D. 650), but is presented in a landscape rather than a portrait format, and also bears differences in the background colours. This is confirmed by the certificate written in pencil by the director of the Fondació Miró on the reverse of the sheet. As this is the Bon í Tirer impression for an edition which was not executed, it may be presumed to be unique.

Lot Notes
Samuel John Carter was born in Swaffham, Norfolk and studied inNorwich. He specialised in painting animals and sporting subjectsand exhibited extensively. He was praised by John Ruskin for TheFirst Taste (Royal Academy 1875). Examples of his work are in theTate and in Preston.
