Louis Robert Carrier-Belleuse studiedsculpture under his father Albert Ernest and painting at the Écoledes Beaux-Arts. He exhibited at the Salon from 1870 onwards andturned to sculpture in 1889. Like his father, he also worked as amodeler for porcelain, and became art director of the Choisy-le-Roifactory Hautin, Boulenger & Co., one of the renowned Frenchearthenware factories established in 1804 by the Paillardbrothers.

Lami, vol 1, p. 286 CATALOGUE NOTE The present model by Louis Carrier-Belleuse was first exhibited at the Salon in 1892. Louis Robert Carrier-Belleuse studied sculpture under his father Albert Ernest, and painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited at the Salon from 1870 onwards and turned to sculpture in 1889. Like his father, interestingly, he also worked as a modeler for porcelain, and became art director of the Choisy-le-Roi factory Hautin, Boulenger & Co, one of the reknowned French earthenware factories established in 1804 by the Paillard brothers.
