Unsigned, inscribed "DINES CARLSEN" on the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 24 x 20 in. (61.0 x 50.8 cm), framed.
Condition: Minor retouch, craquelure, surface grime.
Provenance: A private New Hampshire collection.
There are several strokes of retouch near the lower edge. The craquelure is scattered, but is more visible near the upper edge. There is a solid support between the canvas and the stretcher. The work might benefit from cleaning.

Self Portrait. Oil on canvas, unsigned, in a wide rustic finish frame with linen liner overall 28 x 24 in. Private collection, Cleveland, Ohio.

Dines Carlsen, the only child of the painter Soren Emil Carlsen was educated at home receiving his general education as well as his artistic training from his father. He first exhibited in a National Academy annual in 1915, continuing to exhibit regularly there and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, plus other juried exhibits. A frequent subject for paintings by his father, he continued the painting tradition by painting and drawing self portraits throughout his career. He became most famous for his still life and landscape paintings, exhibiting work at Grand Central Art Galleries, New York. In 1968 Grand Central presented a retrospective of both father and son\`\`\`\`s work.
