quote 'This is a striking example of Hampson's early monoprint technique, made using a domestic mangle as a printing press. The image was composed on a sheet of perspex and then passed through the mangle. As only one print could be made by this method, Hampson's monoprints are relatively rare. L.S. Lowry admired and bought a number of monoprint portraits or his 'big 'eads' as he describes them
