(Attributed to). View over the Tiber River with Castello d'Angelo and St. Peter's, Rome. Circa 1853. Salt print from a paper negative. 19,5 x 25,5 cm. Mounted to card (some foxing and creases).
One diagonal crease in right portion, slightly faded, blue crayon mark on verso showing slightly through to front in lower river area, minimal rubbed spot in lower left corner, otherwise in good condition.

Giacomo Caneva was one of a small group of friends who gathered in the Caffe Greco on the Via Condotti near the Spanish Steps in Rome, to share information and ideas on their mutual interest, photography, in the period around 1850. The informal group that included Caneva, Prince Giron des Anglonnes, Eugene Constant and Count Frederic Flacheron was reponsible for the finest images of Rome of this period.
