One diagonal crease in right portion, slightly faded, blue crayon mark on verso showing slightly through to front in lower river area, minimal rubbed spot in lower left corner, otherwise in good condition.

Giacomo Caneva rome. waterfall in the tivoli gardens, early 1850s Salt Print from a Waxed Paper Negative, mounted at corners on card, 245 by 197mm Giacomo Caneva was one of a small group of friends who gathered in the Caffe Greco on the Via Condotti near the Spanish Steps in Rome, to share information and ideas on their mutual interest, photography, in the period around 1850. The informal group that included Caneva, Prince Giron des Anglonnes, Eugene Constant and Count Frederic Flacheron was reponsible for the finest images of Rome of this period.
