JACQUES CALLOT Restauration du Dôme se S. Maria de Fiore, à Florence. Etching, 1615. 225x300 mm; 9x12 inches, wide margins. Second state (of 2). Coat-of-arms watermark. From La Vie de Ferdinand 1er de Médicis. A very good impression of this extremely scarce, early etching. We have not found another impression at auction in the past 30 years. Ferdinando I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany (1549-1609) is shown seated at a table and presented plans for the restoration of the great cupola of the Duomo (seen in the distance through the open window) in Florence.
