Harry Callahan (1912-1999) Description: "Cape Cod". 1972. Gelatin silver print. 22,8 x 23,7 cm (28 x 30,3 cm). Signed by the photographer in pencil in lower margin. Harry Callahan was born in Detroit, Michigan and started photographing in 1938. In 1946, he was appointed by László Moholy-Nagy to teach photography at the Institute of Design in Chicago. By the time he retired in 1977, he was teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design. Callahan's quiet, meditative land- and seascapes of Cape Cod are an important part of his oeuvre. - Small puncture hole (circa 1 cm) in left white margin, slight buckling in edges, minimal spot in upper margin, traces of previous mounting on the verso, otherwise a fine tonal print in very good condition.

Harry Callahan 1912 - 1999 'DETROIT', 1941 'GRASSES IN SNOW, DETROIT', 1943 'WEED AGAINST SKY, MICHIGAN', 1948 Three silver prints, two on Agfa paper, printed later. Each signed in pencil in the lower margin. Each signed, titled and dated in pencil on the reverse. Quantity: 3 Images approx. from 15.9 x 21.6 cm (6 ¼ x to 8 ½ in.) to 17.1 x 23.4 cm (6 ¾ x 9 ¼ in.), sheets approx. 35.4 x 27.8 cm (14 x 11 in.) In very good general condition. One print with undulation to the left and right edges and the two left corners slightly bumped, one print with the two left corners slightly bumped, all in the margins away from the images. All three prints with two strips of archival tape from an earlier mounting at the upper edge on the reverse.
