Louis Alexandre Cabié (French, 1853-1939) At the weir; and Angling on the river bank both signed and dated 'Louis Cabié 1895' (lower left) oil on panel 14¼ x 20½ in. (36.2 x 52 cm.) a pair (2) Provenance With Frost & Reed, London. Born at Dol (Ille-et-Viliane) Cabié began his successfulartistic career by studying under the great Barbizon painterHarpignies and later with Pradelles. At the age of 34 he exhibitedfor the first time at the Salon des Artistes Français and continuedto show there throughout his life, during the course of which hewon several medals and honours, including the accolade of Chevalierde la Légion d'Honneur. His works can be found in museums inAlençon, Angers, Chambéry, Cognac, Paris and Perigueux.
