Lot Notes
Edgar Bundy was a watercolourist who painted both historical andgenre scenes. Primarily a self-taught artist, Bundy spent time as aboy in the studio of Alfred Stevens (1817-1875). He exhibited forthe first time at the Royal Academy in 1881, and the Paris Salonfrom 1907 and in 1915 he was elected an Associate of the RoyalAcademy.
In this present watercolour we see Bundy's fluid technique andloosely handled brushstrokes. Bundy often favoured Dutch interiorscenes, however, here he explores natural light and atmosphere.Bundy displays his virtuosity in the pitching perspective of theharbour path and the throng of the crowd, descending to the watersedge.
