Lot 1434 Richard Buckner (1812-1883) oil on canvas, Portrait of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Thomas Cochrane GCB (1789-1872) first Governor of Newfoundland and M.P for Ipswich, signed, 50 x 40in. Estimate £4,000-6,000 Old reline, canvas still tight but paint dirty with discoloured varnish. Fine but stable craquelure. Original gilt gesso frame in good order with title plaque. Elder son of Admiral Hon. Sir Alexander Forrester Cochrane and Maria Shaw. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. Oil on original canvas with some slight discolouration of the varnish but overall in good order, fine but stable craquelure running through the darker areas of the paint, signature at 3 o'clock, a period lily leaf moulded frame which is now rather battered and repainted gold, remnants of label regarding sitter verso.
