Signed and titled in pencil below the image, additionally titled in pencil on verso and with details regarding the printing date and the agency stamp. Verso with remains of former labels and mounting. Original backing card with handling traces and some soiling. Slight silvering on the outer parts of the image.

CATALOGUE NOTE
Buckham was a pioneering aerial photographer, whose achievementis only lately being recognised. His recent inclusion in the Tatesurvey show, How We Are: Photographing Britain (Summer 2007),brought him greater visibility.Buckham used all the resources available to him to get the image hewanted, including using a separate negative for the clouds if theclouds had not been right on the day, montaging aircraft into hispictures to suit his needs, and, as here, carefully highlightingfor effect.

CATALOGUE NOTE
It is known that Captain Buckham used multiple negatives tocompose his pictures, and the effect is plainly visible here, wherethe perspective of the sky and of the ground are markedlydifferent. The signature bears the additonal remark 'Late RAF'.Captain Buckham was demobilised in 1919 after suffering a seriousinjury.
