Located on Fulton Street in Brooklyn, the Halsey Building wasthe first home of the Brooklyn Academy of Design, founded in 1866,where free instruction was offered to the young artists of theborough. A Brooklyn resident for many years, William Mason Brownfocused on landscape painting early in his career, but turned tostill life compositions after 1869.
