Including 100 richly printed photographs depicting ancient ruins and skeletal remains of age-old infrastructure throughout Palestine, Jaffa, and Jerusalem. Also with depictions of local life, scenic views, and architectural interiors. Albumen prints, the images measuring 8 3/4x11 inches (22.2x27.9 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso, each with Bonfils' scripted credit, title, and inventory number, in the negative. Oblong 4to, brown morocco, gilt-lettered title. 1870s

This group includes a rare group of four photographs which document the heavy earthquake on the island of Chios, Greece in 1881. – Some surface scuff/scratch marks, most with a rich dark brown tone and in very good condition.
