Majesty. Mural-sized carbon print, 28 1/4x37 1/2 inches (71.8x95.3 cm.), with Bolton's credit, the notation F.R.G.S., and a caption in the negative; in a handsome contemporary oak frame. Circa 1890
Bolton was a hugely popular British photographer whose pictures were widely exhibited and published. His exotic travels took him to Africa, India, Japan, Indonesia, and North America, where he photographed animals in both zoological settings and in the wild.
Bolton's photographs were published in numerous books and magazines during his lifetime, among them The Picture Magazine, The Animals of the Bible (1901), A Book of Beasts and Birds (1903), and The Animal Picture Book (1905). He was a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Zoological Society, and the Royal Photographic Society.
