HENRY JOHN BODDINGTON (British, 1811-1865) WINDSOR CASTLE ON THE RIVER THAMES.
Large oil on canvas landscape scene shows Windsor Castle with adjoining buildings on top of grass covered plateau with village below along the river which has bridge with figure, two swans and a flock of three sheep with Sheppard and dog on low dirt covered bank. A morning mist has lifted and the sun peaks behind low clouds reflected in the still water. Signed lower right "H J Boddington" and dated 1834/9? on log. SIZE: 30" x 40". PROVENANCE: Christie's Sale #8443, lot #26 10/25/00. From a fine North Shore, MA Collection. CONDITION: Relined, stable craquelure, professionally restored with inpainting. Otherwise very good. 9-98821 (12,000-18,000)
