Description:
Often exploring the intersection of color and language, Conceptual artist Mel Bochner began his career as a writer and curator. Striving to enmesh the cerebral and visual associations of words into der to expand the possibilities of language as art, Bochner’’’’s work are often imbued with humor. “I Forget” uses the etching and aquatint technique to render a common saying in contemporary culture as a bold statement. Executed in 2014, this etching with aquatint on wove paper is signed, dated and numbered five from an edition of twenty. The full sheet is printed with deckled edges and measures 10 ½ x 20 inches. In overall good condition with no evidence of tears, toning, stains or repairs. Mel Bochner (American, b. 1940) Bochner was born in 1940 in Pittsburgh and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1962. His first exhibition in 1966 at the School of Visual Arts, New York, is considered to be one of the first Conceptual Art exhibitions. In the 1970’’’’s Bochner shifted to painting and used unconventional materials. Since 1964 he has lived and worked in New York City. He has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe and his work is represented in the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Musée National d’’’’Art Moderne in Paris.
