"EMERGENCE" [TWO STATES]

1948, one pencil signed, titled and numbered 'Imp 1/30'; the other unsigned, presumably a working proof, both with wide margins. Two etchings on wove paper; one with aquatint and one with extensive hand-additions in mixed media.

both images: 9 x 5 7/8 in. (22.8 x 14.8cm)

(2)
Condition Report:

The etching/aquatint:

With a 2 x 1/4 in. crescent shaped vertical loss at the extreme right center sheet edge which appears to be inherent to the process of tearing this sheet to the desired size. Pale surface soiling and mat staining, a 1/2-in. tear at the upper left margin corner, with 3/4-in. pieces of red plastic tape at each of the margin corners, otherwise generally in good condition.

The etching with extensive hand coloring: all tonalities appear to have been executed with crayon and graphite with small bits of ink. there is a distinct platemark, and the outlines of the figure and design appear to be etched whereas all other tone is done by hand. With surface soiling and smudges in the margins, two small 1/4 in. brown stains in the lower left margin, the lower right corner folded back 1/2 in., otherwise generally in good condition.

These prints are framed together. The sheet size is 11 7/16 x 8 in. (29.5 x 20.3cm)

Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid. All transactions are governed by Freeman's Conditions of Sale.
