Notes
Bennett
was almost certainly a pupil of David Cox, Sen. (1783-1859) whose
influence can be felt stylistically in the present watercolour. He
often painted landscapes with castles and abbeys in them and
exhibited regularly at the New Water Colour Society where he was
elected a full member in 1849. For another work by the artist see
lot 174.
