(1811-1871) Figures resting on a path, Sherwood Forest signed and dated 'W Bennett 1852' (lower right) pencil and watercolour with gum arabic, heightened with touches of bodycolour and with scratching out 10¾ x 15¼ in. (27.3 x 38.8 cm.) Lot Notes Bennett was almost certainly a pupil of David Cox, Sen. (1783-1859) whose influence can be felt stylistically in the present watercolour. He often painted landscapes with castles and abbeys in them and exhibited regularly at the New Water Colour Society where he was elected a full member in 1849.
