In addition to his landscapes Giorgio Belloni also painted several city and harbor views. The present work depicts a view of Verona in a harmonious, muted color scheme. In his works, Belloni was always in search of lyrical color harmonies. Here contrasting highlights are set by the light blue of the sky. Belloni captured the imposing architecture with rapid, rough brush strokes. The partly impasto application of paint gives the image a beautiful depth. Due to the perspective the viewer feels as if he was himself standing on the balcony of a palace.Condition: The painting is in good condition with a few fine cracks to the surface. The frame shows some wear. The stretcher measures 30 x 50 cm, the framed dimensions are 41 x 60.5 cm.Giorgio Belloni (1861-1944) Giorgio Belloni attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera where he was a pupil of Giuseppe Bertini.
