Pencil dated and numbered "R.C. 1961 23 - 107" Sight: 13.5" x 13.5" Frame: 21.5" x 20.5"ConditionThe sheet measures 14.5" x 17". On laid paper with no watermark. With just the slightest hint of mat burn. With good colors and in generally fine condition. Description: Artist: Gustave Baumann | 1881-1971 Title: Harden Hollow Signed l/r: Gustave Baumann [cipher]; l/l: Harden Hollow; l/c: No 10 of 120 Medium: Woodblock print Dimensions: 9 by 11 inches Condition Report: Condition: Very Good This print is in very good condition. With the unaided eye, there is a water mark that appears in the lower right, beneath the signature. There is some visible toning apparent along the very edge, less than 1/8 inch wide and approximately 5 inches in length in the upper left and a very small area, 1/32 inch by ¾ inch in the upper right corner. The colors are strong. The work is unframed and the verso shows a small amount of foxing and some toning over some of the inked areas. It has #1 penciled in faintly. This condition report has been prepared by Altermann Galleries and is no substitute for a physical inspection by you and/or your representative. The report provided by Altermann Galleries has not been prepared by a professional conservator. Signed "Gustave Baumann" in pencil and with hand-in-heart chop l.r., titled in pencil l.l., numbered and dated "II 120 130 50" in pencil l.r., artist's label affixed to the backing paper. Color woodcut with metal leaf on oatmeal laid paper with hand-in-heart watermark, image size 12 3/8 x 13 1/4 in. (31.3 x 33.5 cm), framed. Condition: Pale toning and mat burn to sheet, brown paper tape to left edge (recto), brown paper tape and masking tape to edges on verso. N.B. The work depicts a hillside in Wyoming, New York. Baumann created a smaller version of this composition in 1919. This later version is larger and reversed, and has a bolder pattern.
