State: on modern mount trimmed to edges

The present example is a great image of a frozen Niagara Falls probably from the 1880s or 1890s. Note the camera on tripod and photographer's shack set up on the ice floor below. Also note the proximity of the cracks in that ice! Spray rises majestically from the frozen falls, while you can see a smokestack and buildings of an early manufacturing facility in the background at the top of the image. .

Barker, George
: Died 27 November 1894. In 1862, Barker moved to Niagara Falls, New York, and opened a photographic studio.In 1879, Barker provided photographs of the Niagara region for a state survey on industrial and commercial development along the Niagara River. In 1886, Barker began photographing in Georgia, Virginia, and Saint Augustine, Florida, for the tourist trade.. American and Canadian photographer, 1844-1894
