Sotheby's, London, 13 March 1980, lot 139 258 Georges Barbier 1882 - 1932 L'ARCHER signed BARBIER (lower left) pen and ink, brush and ink, watercolour and gold and silver paint on paper 23 by 15cm., 9 by 6in. Estimate 800 - 1,200 GBP Print Unexamined out of the frame and under glass. Apart from some scattered scuffs in the ink wash visible only under raking light, this work is in good condition and is ready to hang. Presented in a simple gilt frame, the edges of the composition visible but the edges of the sheet covered by the mat, under glass.

Acquired at the above sale by the present owner. Lot Notes Nijinsky danced the title role of Narcisse in costumes designedby Léon Bakst at the Paris premiere on 6 June 1911 at the Théâtredu Châtelet. The first performance of Le Tragédie de Salomé took place on 12June 1913 at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées with Tamara Karsavinadancing the role of Salomé.
