Lot Notes
Ball spent his earliest career working as an accountant. Duringthis period he attended classes at the Heatherley School of Art inChelsea in his spare time. By 1877 he was exhibiting his work, andfor the next two decades he painted landscapes and marine subjectsand exhibited widely at the Royal Academy, Royal Society ofPainters, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, andelsewhere. He became President of the Society of British Artists in1886 and was also a member of The Arts Club from 1896 until1916.
