Patrick William Adam RSA (British, 1854-1929) The Studio of FCB Cadell signed and dated 'PW Adam/1912' (lower left); titled and inscribed 'Interior Studio of F.C.B. Cadell/Property of Patrick J. Ford Esq' to artist's label (verso) oil on canvas 43 x 47 cm. (16 15/16 x 18 1/2 in.) Footnotes Provenance Patrick J Ford, Esq Private Collection Exhibited Edinburgh, Royal Scottish Academy, 1913, cat.no.74, where lent by Patrick J Ford Esq, 9 Moray Pl., Edinburgh. Ford was the schoolfriend who had lent Cadell money for his key trip to Venice in 1911, from which he returned a more mature and accomplished painter. This view of Cadell's George Street studio closely resembles Cadell's own picture The Artist's Drawing Room , painted the same year and sold in these rooms (Bonhams, The Scottish Sale , Edinburgh, 31 August 2011, lot 1016). Cadell and Adam were in the Society of Eight , founded that year, whose other members included John Lavery and James Paterson.
