The artwork incorporates 38 colours combining the techniques of lithography, relief painting, screen printing and hand-colored paper pulp. This print was exhibited as part of Pacita's show Circles in my mind at STPI in November 2003. In Feel the beat! Pacita incorporated glitter, beads and fabric within the artwork's different circular designs. After the print was completed, Pacita added some touches of colours, so that each of the print editions is unique. In Feel the beat! you can truly appreciate Pacita's mastery and love of colours.

Description:
PACITA ABAD (The Philippines 1946-Singapore 2004) Hooker's green signed and dated 'Pacita '89' (lower centre) acrylic and oil, embellished with buttons on stitched canvas 35 x 35 3/4 in. (88.8 x 90.7 cm.) Exhibited Jakarta, Indonesia, National Gallery of Indonesia, Pacita Abad: Exploring the Spirit, July 1996, exhibition catalogue, p. 37. Lot Notes Hooker's green is an excellent example of Pacita Abad's canvas collage painting technique. She has combined traditional art materials of acrylic and oil paint with non-art materials of plastic buttons stitched on canvas, gifting the work with layered elements, choreographing and pulling together the entire creation with her stitches on the canvas. Her openness to experimenting with a diversity of materials allows an extension to the dramatics of painting. Even the paint surface is extended onto the edges of the frame, as can be seen in this work. 'I notice that if I use a carved wooden frame it looks good, but I know that if I cover the frame with materials, whether batik, ikat or tie dye, it enhances the work and makes it more attractive and complete.' (Ian Findlay-Brown, 'Exploring the Spirit and the Senses' in Pacita Abad, Exploring the Spirit, Jakarta, 1996, p. 18.) Pacita Abad, Exploring the Spirit is a collection of work which bears bold witness to the results of her experimentation.

This exhibition later travelled to Manila, Philippines, Cultural Centre of the Philippines, 9 September - 31 October 2004. Lot Notes Not content in just experimenting with the various printmaking methods offered, Pacita Abad elevated the two-dimensionality of the print work Sweet things are made of these by adding another layer beneath the print, using fabric and foil, which peek out of the shaped paper, thus raising the depth of the work and layering on a tactile feature. There is only one other limited edition print that has been effected with a similar quality. The usage of colours, one of her trademarks, is brilliantly celebrated in this work. This limited edition print was created during her residency in the Singapore Tyler Print Institute's Visiting Artists' Programme in 2003.
