The first solo survey of the work of Louise Bourgeois in the Middle East will be on show until June at the Qatar Museums Authority Gallery. The exhibition titled “Louise Bourgeois: Conscious and Unconscious” and curated by Philip Larratt-Smith will feature 32 works spanning the artist’s long career from 1947 – 2009. Chairperson of the Qatar Museums Authority Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani said, “Louise Bourgeois is one of the most important and respected female artists of the 20th century and we are honored to present the late artist’s first solo exhibition in the Middle East.” The exhibition “is part of a series of cultural initiatives organised by the Qatar Museums Authority to promote and support local and international art, foster conversations about artists and popular culture, and build bridges between cultures.” Last month Bourgeois’s sculpture Maman, a large bronze spider was on view at the Qatar National Convention Center in Doha.
“Louise Bourgeois: Conscious and Unconscious” will be on view at the QMA Gallery at Katara, Building 10 from 20 January – 1 June, 2012. (Flash Art)
