A curious mishap for a famous painting by Picasso, The actor, displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. A visitor – the woman was part of a group enrolled in a school for adults – lost her balance falling onto the painting and causing a six-inch vertical tear on the lower right-hand part of the painting which the Spanish artist painted in the winter between 1904 and 1905. The museum management referred that the tear has not damaged the “focal point” of the work which measures 1.8 by 1.2 metres and portrays an acrobat.
The canvas has already been “admitted” to the restoration section where work is being carried out to fix it. The New York museum has a collection of about 250 works by the Iberian genius.
