Artefiera Art Fiera, a very important appointment at international level, will be taking place from 29th to 31st January. For three days the fifteen-thousand square metres of the fair centre in Bologna will become a prestigious space for the two-hundred galleries of modern and contemporary art invited to exhibit.
Created in the Sixties, one of the first international fairs for the modern and contemporary sector, Art First, under the artistic management of Silvia Evangelisti, is proposing a wide overview of works by artists from the early 20th century to the most current tendencies showing, through an accurate method of selection, its identity as a historicized fair in the role of showcase of the art market, valorising and promoting over the years the novelties of the Italian and international art scene.
Even for 2010 the Bolognese fair is confirming its constant attention in supporting Italian art from the early 20th century, to the Fifties up to the contemporary movements, with worldwide acclaimed artists.
There are renowned names and well-established artists, from historical masters to representatives of conceptual, informal, spatialist art, Arte Povera and so on. A unique parterre to discover the works of great Italian masters such as Carlo Carrà, Felice Casorati, Giorgio de Chirico, Gino Severini, next to works of the conceptual art of Enrico Castellani, Agostino Bonalumi and Vincenzo Agnetti, or the informal movements expressed in paintings by Giuseppe Capogrossi, Alberto Burri and Emilio Vedova; Lucio Fontana’s Spatialism and the Arte Povera of Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Giuseppe Penone, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Gilberto Zorio, as well as the representatives of the Trans-avant-garde movement.
Many works featured at this fair propose an articulated vision of the international artistic scene, with works, among the others, by Antony Gormley, Wym Delvoye, Per Barclay, Tony Ousler, Hans Peter Feldmann as well as the greatest representatives of the English artistic scene such as David Hockney, Gilbert & George and Tony Cragg, or masters of photography such as Thomas Ruff, Anton Corbijn or Luigi Ghirri.
The Bolognese market-exhibition is also presenting a selection of works by artists who come from different geographical areas and investigate the aspects of contemporary art by using the most varied means of expression like those of the US performer Nick Cave, the installations of the Soviet Peter Belyi or the materic compositions of the Chinese Zhang Huan.
The proposals of emerging artists are presented in the section “Young Galleries” of pavilion 18. Their valuations range from 500 to 20 thousand euros, to tempt collectors who are approaching art for the first time or for who wishes to discover future talents.
The Bolognese appointment also features excellent galleries, such as Lia Rumma from Naples, Tucci Russo from Turin, Cannaviello from Milan, Astuni from Bologna, Contini from Venice, Niccoli from Parma, just to mention a few. Many presences from abroad, from Analix Forever from Geneva to Ben Brown, Sprovieri and Gimpel Fils from London. And also Sperone from New York, Lelong from Paris, Lars Bohman from Stockholm, Base from Tokyo. The emerging artists are the prerogative of the research galleries with less than five years of activity. The overview for the 2010 edition ranges from Federica Schiavo from Rome to the Chinese Fu Xin from Shanghai
Furthermore, for the second consecutive year Artefiera Art First is dedicating the daily programme of orientated appointments to the theme of art collecting: collectors and museum directors will confront the way collectors and museum institutions interact and fit in the Italian and international art system. The purpose is to stimulate a lively dialogue by inviting representatives and collectors also from the Asian-Pacific area, thanks to the synergy with ShContemporary, the first market-exhibition of contemporary art dedicated to the Asia Pacific Area organised in Shanghai by the Group BolognaFiere.
As usual, in parallel with ArteFiera Art First, it is possible to take part in many interesting appointments. In particular, the exhibition of Gilberto Zorio at the Mambo (until 7th February) and the collateral events at Artefiera Off, while for whom wishes to walk under the galleries there is Bologna Art First, the route in the historical centre “in pursuit” of the artists presented at the fair. And if at the end of the day you still have some strength left, you can see the auctions of the Art White Night, until 30th January, the white night dedicated to contemporary art, with an avalanche of marvellous openings, exhibitions and concerts which peacefully “ invade” the city streets.

In the early sixties I purchased a seascape signed by G. Rossi. Do you have a picture of Giuseppi Rossi’s signature? I’d like to know if I have a Giuseppi Rossi painting. I’m not an art dealer, just a home owner.
I’ve looked at this painting every day for forty years - and every day I love looking at it!
Thank you.
