Rome – An exhibition paying tribute to early Renaissance master Fra Angelico has opened in the Italian capital, offering visitors the rare chance to see a selection of his fragile works in one place. Organizers have gathered together 49 works of art produced by the painter and friar at different stages during his life, providing an overview of his artistic development. The selected works highlight his talents in different fields, with his skills as a painter, illuminator and draftsman explored variously through tablets, altarpieces, canvases, exquisite manuscripts, drawings and sketches.
The exhibition starts with works from his youth, inspired by the late Gothic period, such as The Thebaid (c.1410) and a painting of the Madonna, through to his later years in Rome, where he was summoned by the pope.(ANSA)
