Salon Gallery Presents James Allen

Wednesday 10 December 2008

james-allen-self-portrait-i.jpg SaLon Gallery cordially invites you to an exhibition and sale of James Allen’s portraiture paintings & commissions. 23 year-old James Allen is an extremely talented young portrait artist; on the 27th of November an exhibition of James’s work will be on view to a diverse selection of the nation’s press and art professionals. The exhibition will be open to the public from the 28th of November.
James Allen graduated from the University of Wales Institute in 2007 with a BA Hons in Fine Art having also spent a term studying at the Accademia Delle Belle Arti in Viterbo, Italy. On graduating James was awarded the Harry Holland Best Figurative Artist prize. James’s arresting and poignant portraiture has captured the attention and imagination of critics and patrons alike.
The exhibition of James Allen’s artworks currently showing at SaLon Gallery is a display of 16 paintings in various dimensions either oil on canvas or oil on linen; the upper floor of the gallery presents the viewer with a striking array of James’s paintings predominantly commissioned and completed in 2008. The exhibited portraits are intricate and detailed depicting individual subjects in distinct poses, which portray a most sophisticated skill and classical style.
Of his interest in portraiture James asserts, “The history of figurative art displays the brilliance of its progress from century to century. I have become hungry to access the knowledge of this development to inform my work. ‘By standing on the shoulders of giants,’… I aim to reveal the strength of personality, dignity and wealth of character I hold to be the essence of every individual, regardless of status”. James says of his own work within this most traditional of art forms, “I seek to develop the skill and flair to bridge the gap between the traditional and the contemporary creating a classical context of the modern image.”
Colour portraits and figure drawings sold on a commission basis.
James Allen’s exhibition is open to the public and the press, media and art professionals. For private viewings and inventory lists please contact the gallery director Samir Ceric (see details below).
